Dr. Brian J. Maguire is an adjunct professor at Central Queensland University (CQU) in Australia. From 2018 to 2024, he worked at the U.S. Navy's Submarine Medical Research Laboratory in Connecticut where he was the senior epidemiologist. Much of his work at the military research laboratory focused on identifying and reducing risks for groups of active-duty U.S. military members.

His doctoral degree in public health is from the George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and he has a master's degree in health administration from Central Michigan University. He is a senior Fulbright scholar and has presented his research for groups in 12 countries.

His positions in academia have included being a research center director, graduate program director, and distance education coordinator. He was a full-time professor at CQU from 2012 to 2018.

Since 2010, he has been a member of the CDC, NIOSH, National Occupational Research Agenda, Public Safety Council. From 2006 to 2008, he was a manager for a U.S. Department of Homeland Security, bioterrorism and pandemic preparedness program, where he helped communities across the country prepare for bioterrorism, pandemics, and other disasters. He was a member of numerous EMS committees with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration including: national EMS safety committees; the ground ambulance safety committee; the EMS workforce injury and illness surveillance system committee; and, the 1995 EMS agenda for the future committee.

Dr. Maguire's more than 130 publications include articles and book chapters in the areas of epidemiology, emergency medical services systems, violence, occupational safety, occupational risks for women, health administration, public health, database design, disaster management, and education.

Brian began his career in New York City and worked for two decades in the city's health care system as an agency president, hospital department head, city-wide paramedic training coordinator, chair of the city-wide hospital ambulance administrators’ association, emergency medical services operations officer, educator, researcher, author, and paramedic.
