Steve began his EMS career with the Bellmore-Merrick Volunteer Ambulance Corps. on Long Island in 1997. He attended the Stony Brook University Paramedic Program in 2001 and spent 10 years working in the New York City 9-1-1 System before moving to the Capital Region. He earned a bachelor's degree in emergency management from Empire State University in 2012. From 2015- 2021 he served as the Chief of Operations for Greene County Paramedics, a rural countywide ALS first response agency, and received the 2021 Harriet C. Weber Leadership Award from the Hudson-Mohawk Regional EMS Council. Steve currently serves as the Bureau Chief for the Bureau of EMS Emergency Management with the New York State Division of EMS.

Michael Presta currently serves as the Acting Chief of Port Jefferson EMS. His career in emergency medical services began in 2003 as a volunteer, where he developed a strong commitment to public service and community care.

In 2007, Michael joined Port Jefferson EMS as an Emergency Medical Technician. After completing paramedic training at St. John’s University, he advanced through the ranks as a Paramedic and Senior Paramedic before assuming leadership roles, ultimately serving as Acting Chief. Throughout his tenure, Michael has contributed to numerous initiatives central to the organization’s growth and modernization, including the development of the Facility Dog program.
In addition to his work with Port Jefferson EMS, Michael previously served as a Critical Care Paramedic with Stony Brook University Medical Center and gained valuable experience working as a paramedic in the New York City 911 system. In 2013, he was awarded the New York State Liberty Medal, sponsored by Senator Kenneth LaValle, in recognition of life-saving actions taken while off duty.

Michael holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business, Management & Economics from SUNY Empire State University. He is an active member of the National EMS Management Association, a member of the Suffolk County Regional Emergency Medical Advisory Committee, and an active participant with the New York State Emergency Medical Services Council. Michael remains committed to advancing high-quality, community-focused emergency medical services through leadership, collaboration, and innovation.
