Description

Zika, SARS, MERS, EBOLA. It seems like there is a new disease to worry about every few months. Some oldies but goodies like Measles and Mumps have made a comeback as well. In this session we will review the principles of disease transmission and barrier precautions (BSI, Standard/Universal precautions). We will identify and discuss various diseases of recent interest including Zika, EBOLA, MERS, Measles, COVID, etc. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication (CERC) plan used as new diseases emerge will be reviewed. Strategies and tactics for the EMS provider to handle these situations will be discussed including the ASPR-TRACIE EMS Infectious Disease playbook.
